Description of Project

With the financial support of Uttarakhand Health & Family Welfare Department, in Disrtict Naintial (Block Okhalkanda, Kotabag, Bhimtal & Dhari ) MITR is implementing ARSH Project with the adolescent by forming groups with following objectives. Under this Programme approx. 21000 adolesent are covered. Adolescents constitute nearly 1/5 of total population of the nation, yet their needs have not been addressed so far on larger scale by either the government or non government agencies. Hence the NRHM has selected Adolescent Health as an important service, thus calling for greater need for adaressal of Adolescent needs and concerns.


Adolescents have suffered in the past primarily due to several barriers:

  • Adolescent Issues not recognized as key to improved society at all levels
  • Low awareness on adolescent issues among adolescents, parents and service providers.
  • Lack of knowledge among adolescents on health and other issues
  • Low access to services and providers are untrained
  • Social barriers from families and community gatekeepers:
    • For adolescent involvement in programs
    • Discussing issues around sex, family planning, etc.
    • Early marriage, denial of adolescent sexuality, making a career
    • Aware about Environmental issue and conduct programme in environemtal issue

Hence the need is felt to take up programme for overcoming these barriers and promoting KAP of Adolescents health, life skills, career opportunities etc. involving the stakeholders viz. social organizations, Health department, Education Department, Youth Welfare, PRIs etc.


Goal / Objectives of the Project :

  • To sensitize the community towards adolescent needs and concerns for enhancing their participation in the program.
  • To promote Adolescents Groups in selected areas for providing platform for sharing and learnings on Adolescent needs.
  • To facilitate Adolescent Friendly Health Services in the selected block.
  • To improve the knowledge, attitude and practices of adolescents regarding :
    • Reproductive and Sexual Health
    • General Health
    • Hygiene and Nutrition.
  • To empower adolescent through life skills training and linking them for learning vocational skills.
